Wildcat of the Week Izaiah Olivas
The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week for the 2023-2024 school year was presented to Po-Hi senior Izaiah Olivas.
Izaiah is a cross-country and track runner for Ponca City High School. He is a great peer, team captain, top high school boy in cross country and has a lot of responsibilities outside of school that he excels at.
PCPS Superintendent Adam Leaming said, “Izaiah, a dedicated Wildcat Senior, stands as a shining star of inspiration, weaving perseverance and excellence into every stride. Recognized as this week’s Wildcat of the Week, Isaiah exemplifies the true spirit of achievement through his commitment to both academia and athleticism. As a veteran of the Wildcat Cross Country and Track teams, he not only races towards the finish line but also towards a bright future brimming with promise and potential. Thank you, Izaiah, for reminding us to celebrate each step as a victory with your determination and passion. Together we celebrate you!”
Steve Mchenry, his track coach, said, “Izaiah has a good work ethic and attitude. He puts in the time and effort it takes to improve. We are excited to see him run this spring!” Wendy Landes, Izaiah’s teacher, said, “Izaiah is amazing! He is such a hard worker and is dedicated to reaching his goals. He is a fantastic runner with a tremendous future ahead of him!”
The “Wildcat of the Week” Award is sponsored by Heather Cannon Honda. The award is for a deserving high school student who follows the characteristics of the Wildcat Way which are Work Ethic, Improve, Leadership, Discipline, Compete, Attitude, and Teamwork. These characteristics may be exhibited in any setting and is open to all Ponca City High School students. Several Ponca City patrons are involved in making the “Wildcat of the Week” a reality. These partners include Senator Bill Coleman – TEAM Radio, Heather Cannon – Heather Cannon Honda, Danny’s BBQ Head Quarters, and Tyndall Dentistry. Each week a new “Wildcat of the Week” will be selected from the nominations of TEAM Radio listeners and viewers. Winners receive a free BBQ sandwich meal from Danny’s BBQ Head Quarters and a T-shirt from Boss Custom Tees. PCPS will make the presentation weekly at Po-Hi.
