New Woodlands Principal Named
Christy Reams has been named the new principal of Woodlands Elementary, pending board approval, for the 2024-2025 school year.
Christy graduated from Emporia State University in 2004 with her elementary education degree. Her career in education started with being a middle school math teacher for 10 years, at Arkansas City Middle School and Winfield Middle School. During that time, Christy completed a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Southwestern College and also gained her ESOL endorsement from Emporia State.
After leaving the classroom, she moved into the library media specialist position at Winfield Middle and completed her master's in Library and Information Science through Emporia State. After five years, she moved into the instructional coach position at Winfield Middle and completed her master's in School Administration from Emporia State. She has served WMS in her current position for the last three years.
Christy currently lives in Winfield, Kansas with her husband, Calvin, her daughter, Addison, who is a senior at Winfield High School, and her twin boys, Brody and Cason, who are sophomores at WHS, and their dog, Koda.
"I have been so impressed with what I have seen and learned about Ponca City Public Schools as I prepare to join their team. There is a strong structure in place for the district and their collaboration towards remaining student-centered in their culture is apparent in every aspect,” said Christy. “Woodlands Elementary has a story of pride and success already in place and given the description of their values shown in that story, they are a perfect match for my own. Because of that, I know that I will be joining a tremendous team of staff, parents, and students who will allow me to continue their journey with them and to ensure their story, rooted in student success and strong relationships, continues."
Christy will replace Tim Williams, who has been named CEO of the University Center.
“PCPS wishes Tim Williams and the University Center nothing but the best,” said PCPS Superintendent Adam Leaming. “I feel like Ponca City attracting Mrs. Reams from our neighbors up North speaks volumes for our community. Mrs. Reams brings a data-focused approach to student achievement and it’s going to be amazing watching her grow this year. I know our families at Woodlands will join me in accepting her to our community!”
